A man in the West Valley is facing a slew of felony charges after police say he exposed himself in a high school parking lot and had sex with a teen girl.

Police say 26-year-old Michael Armijo was detained during a traffic stop near his Buckeye home before being arrested and booked on child sex crime charges.

Buckeye police responded on April 30 to a reported indecent exposure at a Fry’s store near Indian School Road and Jackrabbit Trail, where someone reported seeing a man masturbating in the parking lot. The 911 caller described a man, who police say was later identified as Armijo.

Officers called Armijo, who reportedly said he was on his laptop and denied any sort of sexual activity; with no video surveillance or independent witnesses, the case was closed. But last Friday, authorities responded to Canyon View High School after a student reported to a school resource officer that they saw Armijo touching himself after school. The student told the SRO that the man drove off, then came back and yelled.

On Wednesday, the officer spotted a car matching the description reported to police in the area and conducted a traffic stop. Armijo was identified as the driver and was asked why he was driving around campus. According to court documents, Armijo reportedly answered that he had dropped off a sophomore and noted that he worked as a consultant and coach, so he’s on the computer most of the time. At that time, he was let go with a traffic citation, but the officer told him that he said some girls had reported seeing him masturbating, which Armijo denied.

The school’s office then identified the girl Armijo mentioned during the traffic stop. She reportedly said she had been approached by Armijo and offered a ride, at which point she said he began touching himself and tried to touch her. Armijo then reportedly offered the girl money for sex, and the girl agreed. After the encounter, she blocked him from social media due to “weird vibes,” court records stated.

Police say after Armijo’s arrest, he admitted that he often parks his car at Fry’s to do work and that he had parked at the high school but initially denied doing anything inappropriate. He then admitted to picking the girl up and taking her to school on three separate occasions but denied having sex, touching himself, or giving her money.

Armijo was booked into the Maricopa County jail on child sex trafficking with a minor between the ages of 15 and 17, sex with a minor, and luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
